Recording Results & Metrics
Transform experiment data into actionable insights by systematically documenting outcomes using the built-in metrics tracking system.
Metrics Tracking System
GrowthLab includes a comprehensive metrics tracking workflow:
Baseline Metrics
Before launching, record:
- Baseline metric value - Current performance level
- Baseline date - When the measurement was taken
- Sample size - Number of observations
- Notes - Any context about the baseline
Progress Snapshots
During the experiment, capture periodic snapshots:
- Date - When the snapshot was taken
- Metric value - Current performance
- Sample size - Observations so far
- Notes - Qualitative observations
Final Results
When the experiment concludes, record:
- Final metric value - End performance
- Final sample size - Total observations
- Statistical significance - Confidence level achieved
- Lift percentage - Actual vs. baseline change
- Success criteria met - Yes/No determination
Recording Outcomes
| Outcome | Definition | Next Action |
|---|---|---|
| Win ✅ | Hypothesis confirmed, significant positive impact | Roll out, plan follow-ups |
| Loss ❌ | Hypothesis rejected, negative or no impact | Document learning, pivot |
| Inconclusive ⚠️ | Insufficient data or mixed results | Extend or refine |
Qualitative Documentation
Beyond numbers, capture:
- Qualitative observations - User behavior patterns noticed
- Unexpected findings - Surprises that emerged
- External factors - Market events, seasonality, or other influences
Result Summary Template
"Testing [change] on [audience] resulted in [outcome] with [X% lift] in [metric] at [Y% significance]. Key insight: [learning]. Next step: [action]."
Best Practices
- Record baseline metrics before launching
- Take progress snapshots at regular intervals (weekly)
- Record results within 24 hours of analysis
- Be honest about losses - they're the most valuable learnings
- Link results to learnings in the Learnings Library
